Aries is the fiery energy of initiation and inspiration, I am. She is full of activity, learning by doing, leading. Traditionally her symbol is the spring ram with curling horns. The tarot card associated with Aries is the Emperor (4), which represents the principle of personal power and leadership. Here Aries brings her curiosity and ability to take initiative as she forges the way. Aries time in the wheel of the year is the Spring Equinox. At this time there is a balance of light and dark, but the light is growing and all life is starting to push and grow. Creatures are moving, the woods are full of vernal pools, rich with chirping frogs, and streambeds are boiling with melt water. There are sounds of life everywhere. Aries is the time of the new moon. She is unseen, rising and setting with the sun. She is the seed, pushing against her shell, answering the rising impulse to sprout and grow, to begin a new process. She is full of potential, her future yet to be seen. I chose Artemis to represent Aries. With her many breasts she is Goddess of nature, fertility and birth, as Aries has the energy of leading the way and starting new things. Artemis is mother of all living things as well as huntress and destroyer. She holds the balance between preserving life and administering death, as the seed is unsure if it will thrive or perish. Yet her energy as virgin unto herself, free to roam field and forest as she pleases, fills her with an ascending energy, an adventurous heart. Aries fills us with that same full spirit where anything is possible, we have the energy to begin and the wild edge to blaze our own trail.
